Bumper Stickers
The common bumper sticker is an adhesive sticker containing a message. It is to be stuck on the bumper of an automotive so it can be by people in other vehicles. But some stick these labels in their rear windows and you will nowadays find these stickers stuck to many other objects. The common bumper stick is made of vinyl and is about 3” x 11”.
These bumper stickers can be advertising a business or an event, they can be religious or humorous in nature or they can be used to show support for something like a school or sports team. They may show support for or oppose a specific idealistic or political point. Bumper stickers are a well-liked and accepted way of showing support for a contender for a government seat and are very common during election years.
Some say that people who choose to show their individualism and independence by using bumper stickers are more likely to take part in acts of road rage. Something to do with marking your territory, but I will let the psychologists deal with that.
Because your vehicle is usually out of doors in all kinds of changing weather conditions your bumper sticker needs to adhere well to the bumper surface. If, however, you are using it say for advertising and you do not necessarily wish to display it all the time you may want to go with a magnetic bumper sticker.
Some ways to remove the common bumper sticker are: use of a heat gun, WD-40 or other penetrating oil or household paint thinner.
As near as I can tell the first bumper stickers appeared shortly prior to WWII and were attached with wire to the bumper of the vehicle.
Recently, bumper stickers have become away of advertising and some businesses offer to compensate car owners to advertise for them. For instance a pizza joint might give you a free pizza a week to affix a bumper sticker advertising their place of business. Maybe it is this reason some vehicles you see are covered with bumper stickers that advertise.
